All dogs, long haired and short haired, grow thicker coats during the winter months. Now that spring is here, it’s time to get your dog’s winter coat clipped.
With spring comes beautiful flowers and lush green leaves, but this also brings grass seeds and prickles. In between your grooming visits, it’s important to be mindful of these nasty awns. After taking your dog for a walk, run your hand against the fur to ensure there are no grass seeds or prickles lodged in their coat. Unfortunately, grass seeds don’t discriminate against body parts and can cause quite a lot of discomfort and damage to your dog. Not only should you check your mates fur, grass seeds can end up embedded in your pet’s skin – in their paws, ears, nose – even eyes.
With the increase of pollen during this season, it is normal for your dog to experience some extra itchiness. If you believe your pet’s skin seems more irritated than normal, please see your vet.
